Time to start thinking of Halloween and the fun and cool costumes you and your kids will be wearing. My children’s school loves Halloween and the children look forward to dressing up!! I have 4 kids to dress up so we need to start thinking about this now!!! There’s been a lot of years when I’ve been stuck last minute running around town trying to find that perfect costume. Unfortunately come Halloween night it’s usually freezing and raining. The costumes generally are not that warm and I’m fighting with my kids to put coats and boots on. My littlest one is still in the pretty princess phase so I had to come up with something sweet and warm for her. We decided together that a butterfly costume would be perfect. This was a great opportunity to go through the ever growing MJ’s Off the Hook Stash!!! I literally have a huge bin of ruffle yarn I purchased for arm knitting classes. I just haven’t had the time to teach so this yarn was perfect for this project!!! Meg loves pink and I had this beautiful sparkly yarn in Red Heart Boutique Sashay called tutu. It’s exactly what she wanted to make her beautiful butterfly wings and hat. It’s always fun to remake and use yarn in different ways we haven’t thought of! I love my Q hook for fast projects so this yarn was perfect to make this set quick!
I have made this pattern available for free!!! In this tutorial I show you how to make the tutu skirt with a crocheted band, the bulky butterfly hat and wings. You can download the PDF here Butterfly Costume Set and also watch a video tutorial on my YouTube Channel!!
