Bundle up and stay cozy in the Bulky Celtic Beanie. The crochet hat is thick and warm with a fold-over band and Celtic weave cables. Sizing includes baby to adult with a step-by-step video tutorial on YouTube. Designed in a beautiful bulky weight cotton yarn available in gorgeous modern tones. Scroll for the Free crochet hat pattern and video tutorial.

The Celtic weave cable stitch is easiest when worked in the round. The entire cable pattern is worked in front post treble crochet stitches. The weave cable technique creates an invisible join. The crochet hat is worked from the top down with a join as you go, band. A step-by-step video tutorial for toddler size is provided on YouTube.

How to crochet Celtic weave beanie
The Yarn
The yarn used to crochet the Bulky Celtic Beanie pattern is Billow Bulky Weight yarn from WeCrochet. Billow is a blend of 100% Pima Cotton. It’s a bulky #5 weight and is a unique yarn that varies from thick to thin. Billow comes in 18 beautiful and modern shades. The colours I used for my hats are Sagebrush and Ice Lily, other colours pictured are cadet, comfrey and natural. 1-2 hanks are needed for all sizes. You’ll love how soft and comfy this yarn is to work with.

Substitutes
If you’re looking for a yarn substitute I’ve listed a few that I think will work well. Make sure to meet the pattern gauge of 12 sts and 5 rows equal to 4″ in cable pattern with 6mm hook when crocheting this hat so that the sizing will be correct.
Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky
The Hook
I love crocheting with my Streamline Hooks from Furls. They are light and easy to work with. Not to mention they come in so many gorgeous colour combos They are so nice to work with and I can crochet for hours without hand pain. I used the Taurus 6mm crochet hook and the cafe 5.5mm crochet hook for the Bulky Celtic Beanie. Use code MJS15 for 15% off.
To make big beautiful yarn pompoms I highly suggest a Jumbo Clover, Pompom Maker. You can make a pompom so quick and easily with hardly any trimming. Or if you prefer you can purchase snap style faux fur pom poms like the ones I used for my hats HERE
