Project Tips
Project Time: Approximately 25-30 minutes per dishcloth.
- Adjusting the size:
The stitch pattern is worked in multiples of 3 plus 2. To make the dishcloth larger or smaller, add or remove sets of three stitches from the starting chain to customize the size.
- Keeping the dishcloth square:
Rather than focusing strictly on measurements, work an even number of rows and visually check that the dishcloth remains as close to square as possible.
- Stitch placement:
The crossover treble crochet is worked over the double crochet stitches and placed back into the skipped stitch, inserting the hook from back to front. This stitch may feel unfamiliar at first, so watching the video tutorial is highly recommended for proper placement.

Notes: The stitch pattern is worked in multiples of 3 plus 2. The crossover treble crochet is worked over the double crochet stitches, inserting the hook through the stitch from back to front rather than front to back. Refer to the video tutorial for additional guidance.

With larger hook, ch 41, work 1 dc in the 6th ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 tr in the ch before the first dc, *sk next ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 chs, 1 tr in skd ch; rep from * across, work 1 dc in last ch, turn—38 sts.
Row 2 (WS):
Ch 3 (included as a st here and throughout), *sk next st (tr previous row), 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 tr in skd st; rep from * across, work 1 dc in turning ch, turn—38 sts.
Row 3:
Ch 3, *sk next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 tr in skd st; rep from * across, work 1 dc in turning ch, turn—38 sts.
Rows 4-19:
Repeat Row 3 until the dishcloth measures approximately 8.5 inches square, ending on the right side. After the final row, change to a smaller hook.
Border
Round 1:
Ch 1, turn, work 38 sc evenly down the side of the dishcloth (2 sc per row), at corner ch 1, work 38 sc evenly across the bottom of the dishcloth, at corner ch 1, work 38 sc evenly up the next side of the dishcloth, at corner ch 1, work 38 sc evenly across the top of the dishcloth, at corner ch 1, sl st in the first sc to join.
Round 2:
Ch 1, sl st, ch 1 in the first st, *sl st, ch 1 next st; rep from * around. Sl st in the first sl st to join. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Blocking
For a polished finish, wet blocking is recommended. Gently soak the dishcloth, squeeze out excess water, and pin it to 9.5 inches by 9.5 inches to create crisp, straight edges. Allow it to dry completely. Alternatively, the dishcloth may be lightly steamed to relax the stitches and smooth the fabric.
