Crochet Stitches

The crochet stitches used to make this crochet bag tote are simple basic stitches perfect for a beginner. You will need to know the crochet magic ring, treble crochet and a single crochet stitch. I will also teach a few crochet stitches you might know in the video tutorial. The Centre Single Crochet aka the Waistcoat Stitch and also the Foundation Single Crochet. Crochet a Market Bag for Summer

The crochet market bag will look great with everything in your summer wardrobe! It’s the perfect bag to take with you to the beach, out shopping and even to stash your crochet projects around the house. I’ve made so many of them and find them extremely useful. I always have a project or two in a couple and a few in the car for shopping trips.

The easy crochet market bag pattern is written in Standard American terms and detailed pictures are included in the written PDF.

Crochet Hook Needed

This easy crochet bag tote pattern calls for a US J/10 (6mm) and US I/9 (5.5mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. I recommend Furls Crochet Odyssey Hook‘s or Streamline Swirls (just make sure not to drop them they are breakable).

Crochet Market Bag Construction

The Bag is worked in the round from the bottom-up. The top of the bag is added to the front and back slightly gathering the bag. The strap and edging are crocheted with a smaller hook. The strap is added by using the fsc technique. When changing colours, work the last yarn over the last stitch with the next colour. Step by step video tutorial is provided on our YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/2Hl2ByZkVlg

Crochet Techniques/ special stitches

Magic Ring – See video Tutorial – https://youtu.be/QMZpO5-19hQ

Foundation Single Crochet (fsc) – See video Tutorial – https://youtu.be/RA_lnM9hGls

Centre Single Crochet (csc) aka (Waistcoat Stitch) – Formed the same way as a standard single crochet. Instead of working, the usual way locate the inverted V-shape on the post of the stitch 1 row below. Insert your hook in the centre of that V. Create loose stitches with a large hook to make it easier to insert hook into the V.
