PATTERN

Notes:

The pattern is written for a striped bauble, but it can be simplified by working in a solid colour, eliminating the need for colour changes. When changing colours, work a slip stitch as normal (not a reverse slip stitch) to join with the current colour, then switch to the next colour. Carry the main colour (MC) yarn up the inside of the bauble and cut and knot all other colour ends.

Instructions: Refer to the small and large bauble chart for the colour pattern.

Small Colour Chart

Small Bauble (6cm)

Notes: Use any colour combination of A-E.

Round 1 (RS):

With MC, Magic Ring, work 12 sc in the ring, pull ring tight, rev sl st in first sc to join—12 sts.

Round 2:

Ch 1 (not included as a st here and throughout), work 2 sc in each st around, sl st in first sc to join—24 sts. Change to A, drop off MC.

Round 3:

With A, ch 1, *1 sc in first st, ch 1, sk st; rep from * around, rev sl st in first sc to join—24 sts.

Round 4:

With A, ch 2, sk sc, 1 sc in ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk sc, 1 sc in ch-1 sp; rep from * around, sl st in ch-2 sp to join. Change to MC, cut A.

Round 5:

With MC, ch 1, 1 sc in ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk sc, *1 sc in ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk sc; rep from * around, sl st in sc to join. Change to B, drop off MC.

Rounds 6-10:

Rep Rounds 4 & 5. Ending Repeat at Round 4. Refer to the Small Colour Chart for the colour pattern. Knot colour tails and trim. Place the cover over 6cm ornament ball.

Round 11:

With MC, ch 1, sc in each ch-1 sp around, sl st in first sc to join—12 sts. Fasten off with a tail for weaving.

With yarn needle weave through the flo of each st around, pull tight, weave and trim tails.

Notes: Use any colour combination of A-E.

Round 1 (RS):

Rounds 7-17:

Rep Rounds 5 & 6. Ending Repeat at Round 5. Refer to the Large Colour Chart for the colour pattern. Knot colour tails and trim. Place the cover over 10cm ornament ball.

Round 18:

With MC, ch 1, sc in each ch-1 sp around, sl st in first sc to join—18 sts.

Round 19:

Ch 1, *sc2tog across first 2 sts, rep from * around, sl st in first st to join—9 sts. Fasten off with a tail for weaving. With yarn needle weave through the flo of each st around, pull tight, weave and trim tails.

Embellishments

Tie a bow using twine or ribbon. Use a hot glue gun to secure the bow to the top of the ornament.
