What Colours are Best for Crochet Pumpkins?

Crochet pumpkins truly are a versatile and customizable project. One of the biggest joys of creating these delightful decorations is the ability to choose your own colour scheme and design. You have the freedom to let your personal style and creativity shine through in every stitch.

For my crochet pumpkins, I used split contemporary colours. Consider playing around with bold and vibrant colours to make a statement. Or, if you prefer a more subtle and natural look, opt for earthy tones that mimic the colours of real pumpkins. The possibilities are endless!

Don’t be afraid to get creative and mix and match colours to suit your taste. Whether you want to create a traditional orange pumpkin with a twist or go for a completely unique colour scheme, the choice is yours. Let your imagination run wild and experiment with different combinations until you find the perfect palette that speaks to you.

Substituting Yarn

When it comes to yarn substitution for the Cozy Cottage Cabled Pumpkin pattern, you have plenty of flexibility to get creative and achieve different sizes and textures. Since the pumpkin is a decorative piece rather than a garment or accessory, feel free to have fun experimenting with different weight yarns.

To ensure that the stuffing doesn’t come out, it’s recommended to work with a slightly smaller hook than what the yarn label recommends. This will result in a tighter stitch and provide a secure base for the stuffing.

If you wish to achieve a similar size as the pattern suggests, selecting a yarn with a similar weight to what’s recommended in the pattern is a good starting point. I used a DK weight yarn as well as a worsted weight yarn to show you the results of different weight options. Additionally, making a gauge swatch before starting your project is always a good idea, as it helps ensure that your tension and stitch count match the pattern’s specifications.

Embrace the opportunity to explore different yarns and their unique textures to add your personal touch to the Cozy Cottage Cabled Pumpkin. Happy crocheting!

Finishing:

1. Begin by carefully stuffing the pumpkin with polyester fiberfill until it reaches your desired plumpness.

2. With a yarn needle, weave the needle through every other stitch around the opening of the pumpkin. Pull the yarn tight as you go to close the opening. Weave around the opening and back in the opposite direction to secure.

3. Utilize the long tail of yarn to weave between each cable section. Insert the needle between the cables and bring it up through the bottom center coming out of the top centre of the pumpkin, then pull gently to create an indent.

4. Once you reach the top of the pumpkin, secure the yarn with a knot at the center. Weave the yarn down between the next cable section from there to create another indent. Repeat this process around the pumpkin until you have indented between each cable section, creating a realistic pumpkin shape.

5. Weave the yarn tail and trim.

6. Use a glue gun and apply a small amount of glue to the center of the pumpkin’s top. Carefully press a cinnamon stick onto the glue, allowing it to adhere firmly as a stem.

7. To add an extra touch of charm, take a piece of twine and tie it securely around the cinnamon stick stem. You can leave the twine ends long for a natural and rustic look or trim them to your preferred length.

With these steps, you’ll complete your cozy cottage cabled pumpkin, ready to bring autumn flair to your home decor. Enjoy your finished piece and the warmth it brings to your space!
