I was thrilled to design this crochet pattern for a men’s cardigan, as they can be quite rare to find. When my husband expressed his desire for a cardigan crocheted with bulky weight yarn, I knew this pattern was the perfect fit. The Mountain Ridge Cardigan is worked in pieces flat from the bottom up. The cardigan is seamed and finished with a ribbed collar. First, double-check your login details. Make sure you’re signing in with the same email you originally used to create your Grow account. If you’re not sure, click “Forgot Password” to reset your login. Once you’ve updated it, return to my site and try again.
Next, clear your browser’s cache and cookies. Sometimes the login just gets stuck. You can also try opening the page in a private or incognito window, or switching to another browser like Chrome, Safari, or Firefox to see if that does the trick.
It also helps to make sure you’re logged into Grow directly. Visit https://grow.me and sign in there first. Once you’re logged in, come back to my site and refresh the page — your pattern should unlock automatically.
If you’re still having trouble, check your browser’s privacy settings. Grow needs cookies to verify your account, so make sure cookies and cross-site tracking are allowed. Blocking:
Wet or steam and pin to measurements on blocking mats. Allow pieces to dry thoroughly.
Seaming:
Shoulders
With RS facing, position the front panels to line up with the back shoulders. Use the back panel tail to whip stitch the shoulders together. Weave in ends.
Sleeves
Find the centre of the top sleeve edge and pm. Position the sleeves to line up with the shoulder seam. With RS facing, use the sleeve tail to whip stitch the sleeve to the cardigan.
Sides & Sleeves
With RS facing starting at the sleeve cuff, seam the sleeves and sides together.
Edging:
Notes: The number of stitches required to edge the panel will be the total number of rows multiplied by 1.5 (44 x1.5 = 66). Use this formula if you have altered the length of the cardigan.
Row 1:
Join yarn to the front right panel edge, with the smaller hook, work 1 sc in each st across ribbing (6 sts), work sc sts evenly along the panel edge (66 sts), work 1 sc at the shoulder seam, work 3 sc across the back shoulder neck opening, work across the neck opening (14 sts), work 3 sc across the back shoulder neck opening, work 1 sc at the shoulder seam, work sc sts evenly along the panel edge (66 sts), work 1 sc in each st across the ribbing (6 sts), ending with 166 sts.
Mark Buttonholes: Watch the tutorial for directions
With RS facing at the front left side (for men) and front right side (for women), count 3 sts from the bottom edge, pm in the 4th st, *count 7 sts, pm in the 8th st; rep from * [three more times]. For large 35mm buttons, the buttonhole will be 2 sts.
Buttonhole Row:
Work 1 sc in the blo 2 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sts, 1 sc in the blo last 2 sts, turn.
Next Row:
Ch 1, work 1 sc in the blo 2 sts, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, 1 sc in the blo last 2 sts.
Collar
The collar is joined as you go to the edging.
Row 1:
With smaller hook, ch 7, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sk first st at the edge, sl st in next 2 sts, turn—6 sts.
Row 2:
Sk sl sts, 1 sc in the blo of each st across, turn—6 sts.
Row 3:
Ch 1, work 1 sc in the blo of each st across, sl st in next 2 sts, turn—6 sts.
Rep Row 2 & 3 until you reach the last buttonhole, work buttonhole rows at each marked st. Continue to increase rows.
