Gauge
Square: 10 sts and 10 rows equal to 3″ wide x 4″ tall with 5.5mm crochet hook
Because this is a blanket, exact sizing isn’t critical unless you want to match the pattern’s yardage requirements closely. Slight variations in size are totally fine and won’t affect the overall look or function of the design.
That said, it’s still a good idea to create a gauge swatch before starting your project, especially if you’re substituting yarns. Starlette yarn is on the heavier side of most worsted weight #4 yarns, so keep in mind that yarn weight, fiber content, and even hook brand can affect your tension and finished size.
To check your gauge, crochet a flat swatch approximately 30 stitches wide. Measure the center of your swatch; you’re aiming for one square to measure about 3″ wide by 4″ tall.
If your stitches are too tight (making the blanket too small), try a larger hook. If your stitches are too loose (making it too large), try a smaller hook. You can also fine-tune the height of your stitches by adjusting your tension, pulling up for longer stitches or tightening slightly for shorter ones.
Want to make a different size? No problem! Just adjust your starting chain in multiples of 20, and crochet as many rows as needed for your desired blanket length.
I’ve also included some yarn recommendations that work well as alternatives to Starlette, so you can customize your project to suit your favourite fibres or what you have on hand.

Wrap in a towel to press out the excess water. Lay blanket on blocking mats and pin to the measurements. Allow to dry thoroughly, and remove pins.
