I absolutely love a good crochet basket pattern, and I know my followers do too. The response to my Two-Toned Nesting Baskets was amazing, and it made me so happy to see so many of you making them. Baskets are such a versatile and trendy project right now. They are perfect for gift giving, organizing, nursery decor, and so much more. Plus, they are an affordable handmade gift option, which is always a bonus when you know how pricey some crochet projects can get.
The Best Yarn for Crochet Baskets
When it comes to making crochet baskets, using a thick and sturdy yarn is key. Super bulky yarns like acrylic, cotton, or even t-shirt yarn are all great choices. For this project, I used Bernat Softee Chunky CDN because it is easy to find, comes in beautiful colours, and I already had the perfect shades in my stash. It is also thick and durable, which made it ideal for creating strong, structured baskets.

Gauge
Adjusting your crochet hook size or switching to a different hook style or brand can help you reach the required gauge. It’s important to note that not all yarn weights are identical, even if they are labelled the same; variations in thickness, drape, and softness can occur.
For this specific pattern. If you find that you have too many stitches, consider switching to a larger hook size. Conversely, if you have too few stitches, opt for a smaller hook size. Your technique can also affect the height of the stitches; you can lengthen stitches by pulling up on them or shorten them by tightening your tension.

Construction
The baskets are crocheted from the bottom up in the round. Start by creating the base using half double crochet stitches, following the increase rounds specified for each size—each larger size will include one additional increase round. Once you reach the desired number of increases, transition to working the Alpine stitch, optionally alternating colours for added flair.
To finish off the top edge, crochet single crochet stitches and incorporate chain spaces to create sturdy handles.
