One of my favourite things to wear on fall and winter walks are chunky ear warmers. They keep my ears warm without feeling too hot. They are perfect with ponytails or messy buns. My daughters always take every new one I make because they love them too. Even my granddaughter Rose wears hers all the time.

Beginner skill level.

This crochet headband is made with two strands of Mary Maxim Prism DK weight yarn. The colours blend so beautifully when held together. Every ear warmer looks different because of the variegated yarn. They use very little yarn, so they are perfect for stash busting.

If you love quick and practical crochet projects, you will enjoy this one. The Suzette stitch adds soft texture. The pattern is beginner friendly. It also includes six sizes, so you can make one for everyone.

Finishing

Last row fasten off with a tail for seaming. For the best fit, it’s important to refer to the finished measurements, as slight variations in yarn thickness and gauge can affect the length and width of the headband. You may need to add or reduce rows to achieve the correct measurement, as detailed on page 5.

Seaming

With the right side facing, hold each end of the headband and fold the ends in half. Position the folded ends together, making sure the starting tail is to the inside of the layers (leaving it exposed for knotting) and the ending tail is on the outside edge for seaming. Using a yarn needle, seam all four layers of the folded ends together. Once you’ve finished seaming, weave in the yarn tails and knot tails, then trim any excess. For a visual demonstration, please refer to the accompanying video.

Final Finishing

To complete your project, add a personalized garment tag and secure it with leather rivets or embroidery thread.

Five colorful crocheted ear warmer headbands with twist designs are arranged on a white surface, beside pinecones and eucalyptus leaves. Each ear warmer features a small wooden tag for a charming touch.
