Beginner skill level.

Crochet shawls can be a great way to add a touch of warmth and style to any outfit. They are big and cozy and come in a variety of colours and patterns to match any look. Plus, they can be a great way to show off your stitching skills. Whether you want to add a bit of flair to your wardrobe or you’re looking to make a statement, crochet shawls are a great accessory for any occasion.

Be Creative!

When picking out colours for your shawl, be creative! Pick out colours that you know are going to look great with a variety of your outfits. Personally, I love to stick with neutrals because I know they will look great with most of my outfits!

If you are stuck, here are some tips; You could start by looking at the colour wheel and seeing what shades and hues you’re drawn to. You could also look at the current trends and see what colours are in style at the moment. You could also draw inspiration from nature and look for colours found in the landscape.

Think about the season you’re creating for and the feelings and emotions you want to evoke with your garment. You could also look at art, photographs, and films for colour inspiration. With so many yarn options available, you’re sure to find the perfect colour palette for your shawl.

Row 1:

With A, Magic Ring, ch 2 (counts as 1 dc here and throughout), work 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, in the ring, pull ring tight, turn—6 sts. (doesn’t include chs).

Row 2:

Ch 2, work 2 dc in first st, work 1 dc in each st across until you reach ch-1 sp, work (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in ch-1 sp, work 1 dc in each st across ending with 3 dc in turning ch, turn—12 sts.

Rows 3-11:

Rep Row 2 [9 times]. Change to B. This will use 1 ball of colour A with a small amount left over. Work one less row or reduce hook size if you run out of A. Ending with 66 sts.

Rows 12-16:

With B, rep Row 2 [5 times]. Change to C. This will use 1 ball of colour B with a small amount left over. Ending with 96 sts.

Rows 17-22:

With C, rep Row 2 [6 times]. Ending with 132 sts. Fasten off and weave in ends. Steam block the wrap for best results.

Tassels: Make 3 in C

Cut 24 pieces 16″ long. Cut 2 additional lengths for tying. Tie the bundle of 24 pieces at the halfway point (use this tie to attach to the wrap). With the second length, tie around all pieces making a small ball. Weave end under the ball. Tie tassels to each corner of the wrap. Weave ends under the tassel ball. Steam and trim the ends.
