Crochet a Big Bow or a Rose!
There is just something about babies and big bows! I added a crochet oversized bow to my star stitch baby hats and some with roses. The crochet pattern includes instructions to make both! It is for sure a matter of personal preference, but bows on babies are cute. The bow adds a touch of whimsy and personality to the already adorable baby, making them even more irresistible.
My granddaughter’s name is Rose, so of course, I had to make her a hat with a rose flower on it. Crocheting roses is so quick and easy! They are so dainty and adorable. Once you make one, you will be hooked!

Crocheting for babies and children is so rewarding. Whether you are making it for your children or grandchildren, charity or donations, friends or family, gifting adorable handmade items is such a great feeling. I designed the star stitch crochet baby hat to go with my granddaughters coming home outfit from the hospital.

Yarn Required For Baby Crochet Hat
I’ve chosen Color Theory by Two Wands for this pattern. It’s a soft, luscious, worsted-weight yarn. Made up of 100% acrylic yarn coming in a fantastic selection of modern colours. Color Theory is perfect for baby hats, blankets, and dainty accessories. You will love the softness and durability of this yarn.
Worsted Weight #4
100% Acrylic, 246 yds/100g
Shown in Tourmaline, Himalayan Salt, Raisin, Ivory – 1 ball needed
75 (90, 105, 125, 150, 175, 200, 245) yds

Yarn Substitutions
Color Theory is an excellent soft acrylic yarn for babies. It tends to be the lighter side of a worsted weight #4, so make sure to check yarn labels when looking for a suitable substitute. Most of the subs I have found are a DK weight yarn and should gauge correctly for this pattern. Adjust your hook size if needed. 246 yards per 100g ball.
Coboo is a natural fibre yarn in a blend of 51% cotton and 49% Bamboo. It comes in a variety of modern shades perfect for babies. 232 yards per 100g ball.
Sunrise (CDN) is a soft and silky yarn perfect for garments and baby items. It’s a 100% premium micro acrylic yarn. 240 yards per 100g ball.
Swish DK is a 100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool perfect for all seasons. It’s soft and squishy, making it a good choice for a baby. 123 yards per 50g ball = 246 yards per 2 balls.
