Welcome to my Chunky Suzette Stitch Beanie pattern! Where colourful meets chunky to create the most gorgeous crochet hat. The gradients in Mary Maxim Prism (CDN) yarn make each one absolutely stunning and unique!
They really put these hats over the top! I’ve loved Prism yarn for such a long time, and when I saw the new Sandstorm and Desert Sunset shades, I knew I had to design a fall collection around them. They’re the perfect colours for cozy, autumn makes!

If you love this hat pattern, you might also enjoy the Takkakaw Falls Toque, which is also made with Mary Maxim Prism yarn.

Gauge Swatch
Before starting your project, it’s best to make a gauge swatch. This ensures that your tension and stitch count match the pattern specifications, which is especially important if the recommended yarn is unavailable or if you are substituting with another option. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for getting the proper fit.
You can adjust your crochet hook size, or even switch hook style or brand, to help meet gauge. Keep in mind that not all yarns are identical. Thickness, drape, and softness can vary between brands. For this design, we have doubled up two strands of DK-weight yarn to create a bulky weight. You can substitute with other DK yarns held together or choose a standard bulky weight yarn.
For your swatch, I recommend beginning a baby hat and checking your gauge after a few rounds. Alternatively, you can make a flat swatch: work a foundation row of suzette stitch and continue in rows until you have a square. If you have too many stitches, move up to a larger hook. If you have too few, try a smaller hook. You can also adjust slightly by pulling up on your stitches to lengthen them or tightening your tension to shorten them.
I’ve also included yarn recommendations to provide flexibility, depending on availability.

0-6mth (6-12mth, Toddler, Child, Adult, Large Adult)
For ease of use, each size is written out separately for the body of the hat. The brim is written for the smallest size, with instructions for larger sizes shown in parentheses. The hat is worked from the top down, with each round turned to create the textured pattern. Turning the rounds also helps keep the join line neat and straight.
