However, it’s not as hard as it appears. In fact, it’s a technique that can be mastered with a bit of practice and patience.

The secret to mosaic crochet is understanding that it’s all about the interplay of colours and simple stitches. This exceptional yarn offers a gorgeous palette of colours that have been carefully curated based on the principles of Color Theory, allowing you to create stunning designs that truly pop. Not only does this yarn deliver unmatched beauty, but its acrylic composition also ensures durability and easy care, making it an ideal choice for garments that require frequent washing and long-lasting wear. Substituting Yarn

Color Theory is a fantastic acrylic yarn for creating a beautiful cardigan thanks to its light worsted weight (#4). However, if you’re having trouble finding this particular yarn, be sure to check the label of any potential substitutes to ensure they’re well-suited to your project.

If you’re looking for an affordable acrylic option, my go-to choice is Brava Worsted from WeCrochet. It has a slightly thicker consistency than Color Theory, so keep in mind that your finished cardigan may turn out slightly larger. Another excellent option is Mary Maxim Natural Alpaca Tweed (CDN), which is of very similar thickness to Color Theory.

WeCrochet also offers several other yarn options that will work perfectly for this pattern. If you’re interested in wool options, I would suggest taking a look at Swish Worsted and The Wool of the Andes Worsted. If you prefer luxury wools, be sure to check out Capra DK, a blend of Merino Wool and Cashmere, and Gloss DK, a combination of Merino Wool and Silk.

Crochet Mosaic Cardigan Construction

Crafted for both experienced and novice crocheters, the Diamond Drift Cardigan pattern features an easy one-piece construction design. The front and back pieces are worked together from the bottom up, without any side seaming necessary.

When reaching the arm section, you can create the arm slits by working individually across the stitches for the front right, back, and front left sides. This technique ensures a comfortable fit and can be done with ease, even by beginners. The only required seaming is at the shoulders. The sleeves can then be crocheted separately by joining onto the arm openings.

To complete the look, the Diamond Drift Cardigan pattern features a convenient join-as-you-go ribbed collar, which guarantees a professional and stunning finish. If you need assistance with the pattern, be sure to check out the video tutorial included with the pattern. It’s an amazing tool that will teach you all the details and help you easily complete your project.

Inset Mosaic Crochet Technique

Each row on the chart corresponds with two rows of crochet in the same colour, either A or B as indicated, with Row 1 and Row 1a counting as two rows. On the right-hand column, rows 1-34 are read from right to left. On the left-hand column, rows 1a-34a are read from left to right. Row 1 and Row 1a are worked in colour A, as indicated on the Left column. Rows 2 and 2a are worked in colour B, as shown.

By crocheting two rows in each colour, you can carry the yarn tails up the right side of the work, eliminating the need to cut and weave loose ends. Each row should begin and end with a single crochet (sc).

When working on right side (RS): If there is no symbol in a box, work a sc in the corresponding row colour. If a box is marked with a contrasting colour, chain one (ch 1) and skip one stitch (sk 1 st) per box without changing the colour. A box marked with an X symbol indicates working a drop-down double crochet three rows below on the right side (RS) of the cardigan.

When working on the wrong side (WS) of the cardigan (rows marked “a”), work a sc each st made in RS row. Ch and skip chain-spaces matching those on the RS row. The stitch repeat is highlighted in columns 2-19.
