Have you ever looked at crochet colorwork techniques and thought they looked too tricky?
Have you always wanted to try Fair Isle, Corner to Corner or Mosaic but don’t know how to read the charts?
Have you tried it and ended up in a tangle?!
If so, we would love to help!
Throughout October 2021, Briana of Briana K Designs, Hannah of HanJan Crochet and myself Michelle of MJs Off The Hook are bringing you three amazing hat patterns using three different colorwork techniques to conquer those fears and get you loving crochet colorwork as much as we do!
The event will be free and patterns will go on our blogs for our designated weeks. Each hat includes a step-by-step tutorial that will be on each designer’s YouTube channel. But you can get ahead of the game and get the Colorwork Collection Ebook now, a limited-time collection that ends on October 31st. This ebook is beautifully designed and I know you’re going to love it. The hats come in Baby to Adult and are perfect for the gift-giving season.
All three patterns feature a different hat construction and are perfect for the beginner or advanced crocheter. We will be hosting a three-week crochet along starting October 11th in my Community Group to work on the Modish Mosaic Crochet Hat. Week two we will be making the C2C hat over in Hannah’s community group and in Week three we will wrap up with the Fair Isle crochet hat in Briana’s group.
“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

The Modish Mosaic Hat works up quickly in overlay mosaic crochet and the results are stunning. The overlay mosaic crochet technique involves working single crochet stitches in the back loop and working drop-down double crochet stitches to create the design. So if you can crochet these stitches you’ll have no problem crocheting this pattern.
Hat Construction – How to crochet the Modish Mosaic Hat
The mosaic crochet hat is worked from the bottom up. The band is worked in rows then joined. The mosaic pattern is worked around the band in rounds. The top of the hat is decreased and gathered to close the top of the hat.

How to read a Crochet Mosaic Chart:
The chart is read from right to left for each round. Rounds are worked in alternating colours, as indicated on the left column. The entire round is worked in the colour stated. Ignore the colours displayed in each box; this shows how the pattern will look; you will not change colour throughout a round. A blank box indicates you will work a sc in the blo. A box marked with an X indicates working a drop-down double crochet.
When working mosaic crochet in the round, don’t cut colours. Drop off the colour at the end of the round and pick up new colour as you go. Colour is changed at the sl st join. Always tighten yarn tails when joining at the end of each round; this will keep the join invisible.
The pattern is worked in multiples of 4
Toddler: Rows 1-19
Child: Rows 1-23
Adult: Rows 1-25
Large Adult: 1-27
Drop-down Dc – Drop-Down Double Crochet – Work a double crochet in the front loop of stitch 2 rows below.
