Yarn Requirements & Size Chart

*Because of the large, open stitches, the blanket will have significant stretch. Finished sizes may vary slightly depending on your tension and how much the blanket is stretched when measuring.

Skill Level

Easy, written in standard American terms.

A woman holds a jumbo blanket, its chunky green knit adding texture to a cozy room with neutral decor.

Gauge

Blanket: 2.5 sts and 1.75 rows equal to 4″ in blanket pattern with 25mm hook

Due to the nature of the large herringbone stitches, gauge can be a bit tricky. You’re working with partial stitches and tall loops, making exact measurement a challenge.

  • Approximate gauge: 2.5 stitches and 1.75 rows = 4″ (10 cm)
  • Be sure to measure after a few rows and stretch the fabric slightly as you would when using or blocking the blanket.

Don’t be afraid to get creative—this pattern is perfect for experimenting with different yarns to create your own unique, cozy version of the Colossal Cuddles Blanket!

This pattern is designed using a Jumbo #7 yarn, which can be difficult to substitute as there are fewer options available—and many vary greatly in thickness, texture, and loft.

If you’re substituting yarn, keep in mind:

  • The blanket is very flexible in sizing, so you can adjust the starting chain or number of rows to achieve your desired dimensions.
  • Different jumbo or even super bulky (#6) yarns may work, but always check your fabric feel and drape to ensure it matches your preferences.
  • You may need to experiment with hook size if your substitute yarn is significantly thinner or thicker.
