There is just something about crocheting for summer that makes me happy. Maybe it’s the cotton yarn, the simple stitches, or knowing that the finished project will get used all season long. Whatever it is, I always find myself reaching for lightweight cotton and dreaming up projects I can throw over my shoulder before heading out the door.

The Salt + Sand Beach Bag has quickly become one of my favourite summer accessories. It’s roomy enough to carry everything I need for a day at the beach or pool, yet stylish enough to use at the farmers’ market or while running errands around town. Best of all, it’s worked in an easy shell stitch pattern that creates beautiful texture while remaining sturdy enough to hold all of your essentials.
One of my favourite details is the removable Lace Tie. It cinches the bag closed, but it doesn’t stop there. Once you’ve finished using your bag, simply untie it and wear it as a coordinating headband or wrap it around your ponytail or bun. I love little details like this that make a project even more versatile.

Project Overview
Create the perfect companion for sunny days with this stylish beach bag. Worked seamlessly from the bottom up in a beautiful shell stitch pattern, it features a Drawstring Round with a removable Lace Tie that cinches the bag closed. The versatile Lace Tie can also be worn as a coordinating headband or hair accessory, and a step-by-step video tutorial is included to guide you through the project. Perfect for the beach, the pool, the farmers’ market, or everyday summer outings, this timeless bag is both beautiful and practical. Make additional Lace Ties in different colours to mix and match with your outfits or create a coordinating hair accessory.

Finishing
Attach the leather bag strap by clipping each end to the side loops of the bag. Next, weave the Lace Tie through the openings created in the Drawstring Round, working your way evenly around the top edge of the bag. I like to position the ends so they tie at the front of the bag, but you can weave the tie in either direction to place the bow wherever you prefer. Pull the ends to cinch the bag closed and tie into a bow.
The Lace Tie is designed to be a versatile accessory. Use it to gather the top of your bag, wear it as a stylish headband, or wrap it around a ponytail or bun for a coordinating hair accessory. Make a few Lace Ties in different colours to mix and match with your outfits, giving your beach bag a fresh look while adding the perfect finishing touch to your hairstyle.
