How to Crochet the Hello Pumpkin Mosaic Crochet Hat

The hat is worked from the bottom up. The band is worked in rows and then joined. The mosaic pattern is worked around the band in rounds. The top of the hat is decreased and gathered to close the top of the hat. Step by step video tutorial for the adult size is provided on YouTube.

Crochet Hat Sizing

I designed the Hello Pumpkin Mosaic Crochet Hat in a yarn that is suitable for the entire family, including a 0-3mth size. Comfy worsted weight yarn from WeCrochet is a soft Pima Cotton Acrylic blend. It won’t irritate babies’ skin, and it’s soft and breathable. I also like that it’s not too warm for Fall weather, so it’s perfect for hiking and other autumn outdoor activities.

The crochet hat pattern includes 0-3 mth, 3-6 mth, 6-12 mth, 12-18 mth, Preschool (small child), child, adult and an adult large size.

Mosaic Chart

overlay mosaic crochet chart

How to read an Overlay Mosaic Crochet Chart:

The chart is read from right to left for each round. Rounds are worked in alternating colours, as indicated on the left column. The entire round is worked in colour stated. Ignore the colours displayed in each box; this shows how the pattern will look; you will not change colour throughout a round. A blank box indicates you will work a sc in the blo. A box marked with an X indicates working a drop-down double crochet.

When working overlay mosaic crochet in the round, don’t cut colours. Drop off the colour at the end of the round and pick up the new colour as you go. The Colour is changed at the sl st join. Always tighten yarn tails when joining at the end of each round; this will keep the join invisible.

Highlighted rows 3-14 repeat the pattern. Highlighted columns 1-4 are the stitch repeat.

Instructions

The pattern is written for the smallest size with larger sizes in parentheses ( ). If there is only 1 number, it applies to all sizes.
