Crochet Baskets
I love my wicker baskets; since you are here, I’m sure you do as well. I think every time I go to my local Homesense, I pick up another one! There is definitely one in every room of my house. These style baskets are totally in right now; why not make one? I received this yarn from Mary Maxim, and I finally had a project to use it for!
To crochet, a basket is really so simple. With a few techniques, you will be on your way to crocheting a nesting basket in no time. Find the free crochet pattern below. Be sure to follow along with the step-by-step video tutorial.

Crochet Basket Inspiration
When crocheting my Rustic Farmhouse Carrots for Easter decor, I thought, why not make some baskets as well? These two-toned nesting baskets are perfect for gift baskets, storage, side table decor, plant pot covers, storing your small crochet projects and whatever else you can think of!
With my nesting baskets, I have decided to make easter gift baskets for my family. I made a baby gift basket, including; some adorable outfits, a stuffy, washcloths, headbands and a waffle stitch hat! In another gift basket, I added some easter decor, tea towels, an easter spatula, of course, my Rustic Farmhouse Carrots and a coffee mug. This is just what I put in mine, but if you choose to make gift baskets as well, be creative!

Yarn Inspiration
The Two-Tone Nesting Baskets are designed in Mary Maxim Home for a great sturdy basket. If you are looking for substitutes, I have put together some alternative yarn choices for you. Mary Maxim Titan Bulky is an excellent acrylic choice for this project. Brava Bulky and Bernat Softee Chunky are other great acrylic options that would work for this pattern. Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick and Hue & Me are great wool blend options for a modern and rustic look. Slightly changing the weight of yarn from a #5 bulky to a #6 super bulky will make your baskets a little bigger. You may also want to go up a hook size if you’re using super bulky yarn.

Crochet Basket Sizing

Gauge
6 sts and 4 rows equal to 2″ in hdc
5 sts and 5.5 rows equal to 2″ in sc blo/flo
Construction
The crochet basket is worked from the bottom up in the round. When changing colours, work the last yarn over the last stitch with the next colour. A Step-by-step video tutorial is included for the small-size basket on YouTube. https://youtu.be/tgdH8Ivfi78

Special Stitches
Rev sl st – Reverse Slip Stitch: Go through the stitch back to front; keep working yarn to the front, YU (Yarn Under) pulling through the loop on the hook.
3rd lp – 3rd Loop: The 3rd loop of the hdc is located under the two loops of the stitch. Turn the stitch towards you, work into the 3rd loop.
Seamless Join – After the last stitch of the round, fasten off. With a yarn needle, weave under both loops of the first st, then weave through the blo of the last stitch. Weave in tail.
Magic Ring: Wrap the yarn around your index finger three times. Push the hook through all three loops grabbing the first loop and pulling through, creating a ring. Work the pattern as indicated. Push the stitches out of the way to see the 2 loops. Begin pulling the tail to tighten. Only one loop will start to pull in. Take that loop pulling the other loop tight. Pull the tail again, pulling the remaining loop tight.
