Construction

The sunhat is crocheted from the top down, beginning with crown increases. Special Stitches

Centre Single Crochet (csc): Work a single crochet stitch between the posts of the stitch below rather than under the top loops, creating a defined textured line.

Reverse Slip Stitch Join (rev sl st): Go through the stitch back to front; keep working yarn to the front, YU (Yarn Under) pulling through the stitch and loop on the hook.

Seamless Join: After the last stitch of the round, fasten off. With a yarn needle, weave under both loops of the first st, then weave through the blo of the last stitch. Weave in tail.

Shell Stitch (shell st): Work 5 dc in the indicated stitch or space.

If youโ€™re seeing the message โ€œEmail subscription failed, please try againโ€, donโ€™t worry โ€” itโ€™s usually an easy fix! Here are a few quick things to try:
First, double-check your login details. Make sure youโ€™re signing in with the same email you originally used to create your Grow account. If youโ€™re not sure, click โ€œForgot Passwordโ€ to reset your login. Once youโ€™ve updated it, return to my site and try again.

Baby (Child, Adult)

The pattern is written for the smallest size, with the larger sizes in parentheses (). If there is only 1 number, it applies to all sizesโ€”a step-by-step video tutorial is provided on YouTube for the adult size.

HAT

Round 1: With larger hook, Magic Ring, ch 2, work 12 (9, 10) hdc in the ring, pull ring tight, sl st in first hdc to joinโ€” 12 (9, 10) sts.

Increase Rounds

Round 2:

Ch 1, work 2 hdc in each st around, sl st in first hdc to joinโ€”24 (18, 20) sts.

Round 3:

Ch 1, work 1 hdc in first st, work 2 hdc in next st, * 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around, sl st in first hdc to joinโ€”36 (27, 30) sts.

Round 4:

Ch 1, work 1 hdc in first 2 sts, work 2 hdc in next st, * 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around, sl st in first hdc to joinโ€”48 (36, 40) sts. Baby size only: Proceed to shell stitch pattern.

Shell Stitch Pattern (multiple of 6)

Round 1:
