What Kind of Yarn do you use to Crochet a Skirt?

In my opinion, the optimal yarn for crocheting a skirt would be a lightweight cotton material. Imagine wearing a beautifully crafted crochet skirt on a warm summer day at the beach or in the town.

To ensure maximum comfort, you’ll need a breathable and durable yarn that feels incredibly soft to the touch. For my crochet skirt, I used Comfy Sport from WeCrochet.

Crochet Skirt

Seaming

The short skirt is 4 squares in length and 8 (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) squares wide. Seam all squares together using the flat sl st join method. The method is demonstrated in the video tutorial.

Place 2 squares side by side with RS facing upwards. You will be slip-stitching through the loops to the inside of the squares. Sl st through the blo of the ch-1 corner of the square to the right. Sl st through the flo of the ch-1 corner of the square to the left. Keep working yarn to the back in the centre of the squares as you work.

Yarn over, pulling through all loops on the hook completing the sl st. In the same way, work through each st of the granny square finishing in the top ch-1 corner. Place 2 more squares above and continue working across the granny square beginning at the ch-1 corner. Continue adding squares for the width of the size you are working on, 8 (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) squares. Continue seaming per the diagram below. XS size is shown.

Next, seam together short Rows.

Once you have the skirt seamed into a large rectangle, seam the last short row to form the skirt.

Rep Row 2 & 3 ending on Row 2. In the last Row, ch 1, with RS facing sl st band together, fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing

Lightly steam the skirt to finish.

Wearing

To prevent stretching out the waistband, we recommend putting on the skirt by slipping it over your head. You could also weave through a tie.

Washing

For best results, machine wash the skirt in cold water and lay it flat to dry. If the waistband has stretched out from wearing, simply adjust it back into its original shape while the skirt is still damp.
