DIY Advent Tree Ladder

Make a Rustic DIY Tree ladder to display crocheted stockings and mittens. A tree ladder is a fun and festive way to display an advent calendar. You could also show mittens and stockings on a beaded garland or a large picture frame with twine. Make your tree ladder by following this tutorial or purchase a pre-made tree from Amazon.

Materials

7 sticks

Approximately 120″ of twine

Wooden Star

Glue Gun

Hand saw to cut sticks (optional)

Preparation

 Collect 7 sticks approximately .5-.75″ in diameter. Cut sticks to each of the following measurements;

4″, 6″, 9″, 12″, 15″, 19″ and 24″.

Assembly

 Begin with the largest stick working to the smallest stick. Knot the twine around the stick and wrap the twine around one more time. Leave approximately 5″ of spacing between each stick, and wrap the twine around the next stick 2 times, repeating for each additional stick.  Wrap the twine 2 times around the base of the star leaving approximately 3″ between the last stick and star. Repeat for the other side.  Use a glue gun to glue the twine to the wrong side of the tree ladder to keep the twine in place. Tie a piece of twine to the top of the star to hang.

Use wooden numbers with ties to attach mittens and stockings to the tree.

Add mittens and stockings to each space as follows; 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5.
