If you’ve wanted to try mosaic crochet, you’ll love how easy it is to crochet a mosaic basket crochet pattern in the round. There’s no cutting ends or changing colour throughout a round. The mosaic pattern is created by working drop-down double crochet stitches. This is an easy technique to learn and you can crochet a basket quickly. All you need to know is how to single crochet and double crochet. If you’re new to crochet watch this beginner tutorial on YouTube.
To give this crochet basket pattern an earthy feel, I added some jute rope cord to the top of the baskets. I then knotted the ends and frayed them.
I used Brava Worsted yarn for the potted paradise mosaic basket pattern because they have an extensive range of colours to choose from and it’s a very affordable choice. Instead of using super bulky weight yarn, I doubled up the yarn. This makes the crochet basket thicker and sturdy for holding items.

So let’s go over the basics to get you started crocheting the Potted Paradise Mosaic Basket pattern. The basket is worked in the round from the bottom up. Hold together two strands of worsted weight yarn.
Mosaic Basket Special Stitches:
Drop-down Dc – Drop-Down Double Crochet – Work a double crochet in the front loop of stitch 2 rows below.
How to read a Mosaic Crochet Chart:
The chart is read from right to left for each round. Rounds are worked in alternating colours, as indicated on the left column. The entire round is worked in colour stated. Ignore the colours displayed in each box; this shows how the pattern will look; you will not change colour throughout a round. A blank box indicates you will work a sc in the blo. A box marked with an X indicates working a drop-down double crochet.
When working mosaic crochet in the round, don’t cut colours. Drop off the colour at the end of the round and pick up new colour as you go. Colour is changed at the sl st join. Always tighten yarn tails when joining at the end of each round; this will keep the join invisible.
The chart below is an example ONLY (not the basket chart)
