If you’re looking for a simple handmade decoration to cozy up your home for autumn, this crochet pumpkin garland might be one of the easiest fall projects you can make.
It uses the mini size from our Easiest Crochet Pumpkin Pattern, strung together with simple twine to create an adorable little pumpkin patch you can hang across your mantel, shelf, doorway or anywhere your home needs a touch of fall.
And despite how cute those little pumpkins look, they’re incredibly simple to crochet.

Sometimes beginner patterns are labeled “easy” but still involve a bunch of techniques you haven’t learned yet. We wanted this one to actually be easy.
The pumpkin starts as a simple crochet rectangle.
That rectangle is worked in half double crochet through the back loop, which gives the pumpkin its beautiful ribbed texture. Once you finish crocheting, you seam and stuff the rectangle, then shape it into a pumpkin.
The full pattern includes six sizes. For the garland, we’re using the adorable mini size.

If you’re brand new to crochet, this would make a great first seasonal project after working through our Learn to Crochet Series.
Start by learning the basic stitches and getting comfortable with your hook. Once you’ve learned the half double crochet stitch, you’ll already know the main stitch needed for these pumpkins.
Making several mini pumpkins for the garland also gives you plenty of repetition, which is exactly what you want when you’re learning. With every pumpkin, your tension and stitches should start feeling more natural.
And instead of ending up with a pile of practice swatches, you’ll have a finished fall garland!
Choose Your Pumpkin Garland Colours
You can have so much fun with the colours for this project.
Make every pumpkin classic orange for a traditional pumpkin garland, or create a little patch of pumpkins in different autumn shades.
Try orange, cream, brown, green and warm neutrals, or choose colours that coordinate with the rest of your fall décor.
I used Timeless Tones Anti-Pilling DK yarn for my pumpkins. The coordinated colour palette makes it especially easy to mix several shades together while keeping the garland cohesive.
How Many Crochet Pumpkins Do I Need?
That really depends on where you want to hang your garland and how closely you want the pumpkins spaced.
Before you start, measure the area where you plan to display it. You can then make enough mini pumpkins to fill that space, leaving room between each pumpkin.
There’s no required number, which makes this a great project for customizing to your home.
You can always start with a few pumpkins and add more until the garland looks full enough.
How to Make a Crochet Pumpkin Garland
Once you have all of your mini pumpkins finished, assembly is incredibly simple.

Cut a length of twine slightly longer than you want your finished garland to be so you have extra twine at each end for hanging.
Weave the twine through the tops of the mini pumpkins and slide them into position. Space the pumpkins evenly along the twine, or adjust the spacing until you like the way your garland looks.
That’s it!
Hang it across a fireplace mantel, along a shelf, over a doorway or anywhere you’d like a little row of handmade pumpkins.
Turn Your Mini Pumpkins Into a Wreath

Because the Easiest Crochet Pumpkin Pattern includes six sizes, you don’t have to stop with the minis.
Make several sizes in coordinating colours and group them together on a table, mantel or shelf. Stack different sizes for height, mix them into your existing fall décor, or add a cinnamon stick stem and twine bow for that classic cozy autumn look.
